Abu Dhabi is the capital of the United Arab Emirates. The city has developed into a centre of commerce in recent years and offers numerous tourist attractions such as the Ferrari World or the awesome Emirates Palace Hotel. An impressive cultural centre is being developed on Saadiyat Island, situated directly opposite the city by the sea, with the planned Guggenheim Museum and the Louvre Abu Dhabi due to open in 2012. Arab traditions dating back thousands of years can seen at numerous excavations sites, in the traditional souks or by undertaking an expedition into the desert.
